2023 Singapore P1 Registration Opens June 29: 2C Phase Vacancies Doubled

Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) announced on Thursday (May 19) that parents who wish to register their children for Primary 1 admission next year can do so starting from June 29.

MOE stated through the media that, similar to last year’s process, registration will be conducted online, and there will be no need for in-person registration at schools.

A series of changes announced last September will be introduced in this year’s registration exercise, which will conclude on October 31 this year.

The number of reserved places for children with no prior connection to the school will be doubled in Phase 2C, from 20 to 40 places in each primary school.

MOE stated that Phases 2A(1) and 2A(2) have also been combined into a single Phase 2A, and the method for calculating the distance between home and school has been updated.

Children born between January 2, 2016, and January 1, 2017 (both dates inclusive), must participate in this registration exercise or a junior or Primary 1 program at a SPED school (Special Education school).

Primary 1 Registration Phases

For parents registering in Phase 1—for children with siblings currently studying in the school—the school will provide parents with detailed information on how to register their younger child. Online registration will begin on June 29.

Meanwhile, registration for Phase 2A will begin on July 6 and end on July 8.

Phase 2A is for children whose parent or sibling is an alumnus of the school, whose parent is a member of the school’s advisory or management committee or a staff member, or for children who are currently attending an MOE Kindergarten located at the primary school. The results for Phase 2A will be announced on July 18.

Registration for Phase 2B is for children whose parents are school volunteers, community leaders, or have affiliations with a church or clan associated with the school. This phase will take place from July 19 to July 20. The results for Phase 2B will be announced on July 26.

Registration for Phase 2C will take place from July 27 to July 29, with results to be announced on August 10.

Phase 2C Supplementary—this phase is for children who were not eligible or unsuccessful in the earlier phases. Registration for this phase will be from August 15 to August 16, and the results will be announced on August 25.

MOE stated that the list of primary schools and the number of vacancies for each phase will be updated on the P1 Registration website in mid-June.
