How to Increase Your Child’s Chances of Getting into a School?
One way to increase your chances is to live within 1 km of the school.
This isn’t just some random rumor; it’s a fact.
During the Primary 1 (P1) registration, living within 1 km of a school gives your child priority admission.
Every year, during the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) P1 registration balloting exercise, children who live closer to their preferred school are given priority.
Additionally, living near the school helps reduce commute times for both children and parents.

How does the Primary 1 registration process in Singapore work?
In the annual P1 registration, the priority for admission is as follows:
1. Singapore Citizens (SC) living within 1 km of the school
2. Singapore Citizens (SC) living between 1 km and 2 km of the school
3. Singaporeans (SC) living outside 2 km of the school
4. Permanent Residents (PR) living within 1 km of the school
5. Permanent Residents (PR) living between 1 km and 2 km of the school
6. Permanent Residents (PR) living outside 2 km of the school
For parents who have not yet registered their child for primary school, here’s some good news.
Starting from 2022, the MOE will revise the P1 registration system to expand the reference range for home-school distance.
To ensure more children can attend a school near their home, the number of places in Phase 2C will be doubled to 40, allowing more children with no prior connection to the school a chance to study at a school near their home.
